Rebekka Benzenberg
Rebekka Benzenberg (b.1990 in Duisburg) studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 2013 to 2020. She graduated with Prof. Franka Hörnschemeyer. Her works have been exhibited at the Museum Kunstpalast in Düsseldorf, the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf and the Philara Collection, among others.
Rebekka Benzenberg's work plays with the status-power object of fur, which stands for something luxurious, but also, in a contemporary way, for a clichéd femininity. But fur is also an object that is in a state of flux. Through animal rights activists and campaigners, the view of fur is also changing into something cruel and dead that stands in the way of life. Fur and its status are changing, as are the values it stands for. In the history of fur, the gender that wears it is constantly changing, but the image is still associated with prestige, power and status. The bleaching or tattooing of fur can be a reference to the industrialisation of the western female beauty industry.
