This most comprehensive retrospective of Christian Jankowski's work to date presents almost all of his works from 1992-2013 in chronological order.Jankowski achieved international fame in 1992 when, armed with bow and arrow, he went on the prowl between the food shelves in the supermarket in the video "The Hunt", symbolizing the modern jungle. This was followed by a number of works in which he took a surprising look at the interfaces between art, media and society. In his most recent work "Heavy Weight History", the artist challenged the weightlifters of the Polish national team to lift selected Warsaw monuments, for example that of Willy Brandt. Jankowski initiates a visual trial of strength between the sculptural forms of social memory and high-performance sport.
"It is a philosophical game that lies behind this apparent gag: the world is transformed into a stage whose reality consists only of inventions, role-playing games, what-ifs." Niklas Maak
